In this Indie-Clips Original Interview, we sit and have a chat with self-taught animation filmmaker Deb Ethier about the making of her 2 surreal, experimental short films Effigy House and Epicycle.
Deb started learning animation filmmaking in 2016, starting with stop motion animation, then moving on to 2D and 3D. As an independent filmmaker who often works completely solo on her projects, Deb shares to us the key elements to her creations: freedom, creativity, the rejection of self-doubt... And a whole lot of passion and obsession for the craft!
"You have to be obsessed with what you do"! She says as we explore the idea that filmmakers do not need their work to be understood by a majority. Even if a film touches only one person, it has reached an audience!
Deb goes on to share many useful tips and tricks for beginning filmmakers who wish to learn more about animation. She explains that many useful can be found online and many softwares, including Blender for 3D animation, are free to use and to explore.
We are looking forward to catching Deb's future works, and in the meantime we hope you enjoyed her short films Effigy House and Epicycle, both available to stream on indie-clips.com!
