In this interview, we sit and have a chat with New York-based filmmaker Islam Gimazov about the making of his thesis short film "Guilt Lies Still".

After a spree of mysterious murders, a retired detective has to come back to close an unresolved case and meet the ghosts of his past.

When asked about the main challenges faced during this production, Islam shares that his short film was indeed made on a tight budget, which means that he and his team had to get creative and find ways to save where they could.

Islam explains that the short film was shot entirely in one day! Therefore, they could not afford to make a lot of shots in the short amount of time they had. "In this case, every shot has to be a money shot", Islam explains, as the director and cinematographer of the film.

Islam also develops on the fact that the short film mainly used one location only, in which interrogation scenes and crime scenes were mixed for an efficient use of time. This challenge sparked many creative solutions, which Islam describes as the "beauty of indie filmmaking".

We finish this interview by restating that Islam's short film "Guilt Lies Still" is currently in its festival run and doing greatly. Islam is now working on his upcoming projects and invites us to follow him on IMDB, on his own website islamgimazov.com and on Instagram to stay up to date with his future work.
