Apply for £40,000 in Moving Image Production Funding Through FLAMIN Productions

Artists working in experimental film and artists’ moving image have an exciting opportunity to secure £40,000 in production funding through FLAMIN Productions, a commissioning programme delivered by Film London. Applications are now open for the 2026 edition of the scheme, which supports ambitious, innovative and challenging moving image projects with the potential to reach audiences nationally and internationally.

Part of Film London's Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN), the programme is designed to help established artist filmmakers develop and produce substantial new moving image artworks. It offers both financial investment and professional support, making it a valuable opportunity for artists looking to take their creative practice to the next level.

What does FLAMIN Productions offer?

For 2026, FLAMIN Productions will award £40,000 in production funding to one selected project. The funding includes artist fees and is intended to support the creation of a new moving image artwork.

Alongside the financial award, the successful artist will receive guidance and support from the FLAMIN team and other Film London staff throughout the development and production process.

The programme is particularly interested in projects that push the boundaries of moving image as an art form. This could include experimental film, video art and other creative approaches to moving image intended for galleries, museums, cinemas, festivals, screenings or online platforms.

Who can apply?

FLAMIN Productions is aimed at professional artist filmmakers with an established track record in the contemporary art world.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Have been practising professionally in the art world and making moving image work for more than five years.

  • Have a track record of presenting work to significant audiences through exhibitions, screenings or film festivals, nationally or internationally.

  • Have experience managing or working with production budgets.

  • Have a main address in England.

  • Be developing a project that has progressed beyond the initial concept stage but is not yet in production.

Projects must be deliverable by September 2028.

The scheme does not accept applications from students, including those undertaking part-time or full-time education or PhD research during the production period. Previous FLAMIN Productions award recipients are also ineligible.

Mainstream or genre-led film projects, as well as XR projects such as virtual reality and games, are not eligible.

Importantly, FLAMIN Productions focuses specifically on artists who use moving image as part of a contemporary fine art practice, rather than filmmakers working exclusively within the mainstream film industry.

What projects is FLAMIN looking for?

The programme seeks adventurous, distinctive and ambitious projects that demonstrate a significant development in an artist's creative practice.

Proposals should have the potential to engage audiences in different venues and locations, with a clear vision for future exhibition and/or distribution.

The selection process will also consider the feasibility of each project, the experience of the artist and the extent to which the proposed work would benefit from FLAMIN's financial and development support.

Projects involving substantial production requirements, including collaborators, specialist equipment, animation, editing, post-production and rights clearances, are particularly relevant. Applicants proposing projects with budgets exceeding £40,000 should demonstrate a clear fundraising strategy or additional confirmed financial support.

How to apply for FLAMIN Productions

The application process takes place in three stages:

Stage 1 – Initial application: Applicants complete a short online application form outlining their proposed project and artistic practice.

Stage 2 – Interview: Up to eight artists will be longlisted and invited to interview. Those selected for this stage will receive a £200 fee.

Stage 3 – Full proposal: Following interviews, two to three applicants will be invited to develop a detailed project proposal, including a budget, production schedule, feasibility considerations and an exhibition and distribution plan. Artists invited to this stage will receive a £1,000 fee.

The final award is expected to be confirmed in April 2027, with development and production running from April 2027 to September 2028.

The application deadline is 12pm on Wednesday 9 December 2026.

Artists interested in applying should consult the official guidelines and prepare their answers using the downloadable pre-fill application form before submitting through the online application platform.

FLAMIN also welcomes enquiries from applicants who require accessibility support or alternative application formats.

For established artist filmmakers with an ambitious moving image project, FLAMIN Productions offers a significant opportunity to secure production finance, receive expert guidance and bring a new artwork to life.
