About the Event
IP in Animation Lab: Explore the Business Potential of Animation IP
How can animation professionals protect their creative ideas, develop valuable intellectual property (IP) and turn original content into sustainable business opportunities? The IP in Animation Lab, organised by CEE Animation Workshop and CEE Animation Forum, offers an opportunity to explore these questions through a two-day programme dedicated to intellectual property management in animation.
Taking place in Pilsen, Czech Republic, on 9–10 November 2026, the first edition of the Lab is designed for international animation professionals who want to deepen their understanding of the commercial, legal and strategic dimensions of animated IP. The programme covers key topics including IP development and protection, copyright and trademark law, licensing, content and formats, distribution channels, marketing and global sales. Its goal is to provide practical insights into the commercialisation of creative content and encourage producers to diversify their IP strategies.
Participants will learn from four international experts bringing complementary perspectives to the animation industry. Pelin Turan will address the legal aspects of intellectual property, while Cristina Angelucci, from Licensing Magazine, will share expertise in licensing and children's entertainment. Sandra Lanc of Animotion Media Group will explore business development through a case study on The Fixies and Style Up!, and Irene Sparre of Sparre Production ApS will present a case study on The Nuggets. A panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities of IP in animation will bring the Lab to a close.
The programme also connects with the CEE Animation Forum's Focus on Series sessions on 10 November, offering further insight into the development of animated series, public broadcasting, audience strategies and adaptations of books into screen content.
The Lab is open to international animation professionals interested in IP management. The participation fee is €200. Organisers cover two nights of accommodation, on 8 and 9 November, as well as meals during the event; participants are responsible for their own travel expenses.
Applications close on 27 October 2026. Animation producers and other industry professionals interested in protecting, developing and expanding the value of their creative properties are encouraged to consult the official announcement and submit their application.
