Gjon Mili Residency Program 2027: Call for Projects in Albania

The Gjon Mili International Video Art Festival invites artists from around the world to apply for its 2027 Residency Program in Dhërmi, Albania, a month-long creative experience dedicated to video art, experimental filmmaking, documentary, immersive art, and contemporary moving-image practices.

Taking place from May 1 to May 30, 2027, the residency offers artists an opportunity to explore new ideas, experiment with visual storytelling, and develop projects inspired by the landscapes, architecture, history, and cultural life of the Albanian Riviera. Set in the coastal village of Dhërmi, the program encourages artistic research that connects contemporary visual practices with place, memory, light, and the surrounding environment.

Who Can Apply?

The open call welcomes international artists of all nationalities, including emerging and established practitioners working across video art, experimental film, short film, documentary, moving image, virtual reality (VR), immersive media, multimedia installations, sound, and projection-based art.

Projects exploring site-specific approaches, experimental narratives, landscape, architecture, memory, and public space are particularly encouraged. Applicants should propose a project that aligns with the residency's artistic vision and can benefit from the unique setting of Dhërmi.

What Does the Residency Offer?

Selected artists will receive support designed to facilitate research, experimentation, and creative production. The program includes an artist fee, accommodation for the residency period, daily per diem or meal support, and a contribution toward travel and transportation. Participants will also have access to residency activities, artist talks, workshops, and community engagement opportunities.

An important part of the experience is the opportunity to present work developed during the residency through screenings, projections, or site-specific presentations as part of the Gjon Mili International Video Art Festival's Dhërmi program in June 2027.

How to Register for the Open Call

Artists interested in participating must submit their applications by December 15, 2026. The application process requires a selection of materials that introduce the artist's practice, demonstrate previous work, and explain the proposed project.

  • Artist statement: An overview of your artistic practice and research interests.
