BIFFF 2027: Short Film Submissions Are Open
The BIFFF (Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival) is now accepting film submissions, including entries for its international, European and Belgian short film competitions — a great opportunity for emerging filmmakers to showcase their fantastic and genre films.
About the Event
Calling all genre filmmakers! The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) has opened its call for short film submissions for its 45th edition, taking place in Brussels from March 25 to April 10, 2027. It is a great opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their work to an international audience and to be part of one of the world’s leading fantastic film festivals.
The BIFFF is looking for short films in the fantasy, science fiction, horror and thriller genres, with a maximum running time of 25 minutes. Films must have been completed from January 1, 2026 onwards and comply with the festival’s Belgian premiere requirements. Films must also be submitted in their original version with English subtitles.
Selected films may be included in one of the festival’s three short film competitions: the Belgian Short Films Competition, European Short Films Competition or International Short Films Competition. These competitions showcase emerging and established voices from Belgium, Europe and around the world, with awards including the Silver Méliès for the European competition and an audience award for the international competition.
For independent filmmakers, submitting to the BIFFF is also a valuable opportunity to get their film seen, reach a passionate genre audience and gain visibility in a festival environment that actively celebrates bold and original filmmaking.
The submission deadline for short films is January 10, 2027. Filmmakers can submit their work through the platforms indicated by the festival.
