ELLES TOURNENT

Since its creation in 2009, the non-profit ELLES TOURNENT has been working to highlight and support women’s audiovisual creations. It organizes an annual film festival featuring female directors in Brussels, holds screenings throughout the year in cultural centers, associations, etc., and supports emerging women directors.

Why this dual mission? In 2009, and still today, the observation is clear: film production and the distribution of films through the major cinema networks are largely dominated by men. Contributing to the distribution of women’s films, shining a light on their remarkable and still too often unknown work — that is the origin and the driving force behind an annual festival in Brussels entirely dedicated to the audiovisual works of female directors. Cinema feeds our imagination and our understanding of the world. Women contribute to this. Through their perspective, they break stereotypes and broaden the worldview presented by cinema.

A second observation: although more women than men graduate from film schools in the French-speaking Community of Belgium (FWB) with directing degrees, far fewer women go on to direct feature films. Supporting new women directors by promoting their first or second works, organizing thematic workshops for them, encouraging networking spaces and production support — these are the goals and activities of Graines de cinéastes. This project is at the heart of the non-profit ELLES TOURNENT, as it aims to increase women’s representation in film professions. The more women directors there are sharing their vision of the world, the broader the perspectives for social change become.

Anny Tubbs

Founder of First Move Productions - Documentary Filmmaker

Anny Tubbs is a Brussels-based documentary producer and director whose films delve into pressing social and environmental issues with nuance, integrity and heart. Drawing on more than two decades of experience as a senior legal executive, she brings rare depth and clarity to complex topics - with a deep respect for the voices of those most directly affected.

After advising organisations on antitrust, anti-corruption, and compliance—including as Chief Business Integrity Officer for a major European multinational—Anny shifted her focus to constructive news and storytelling for impact. In 2020 she has founded First Move Productions SRL and has since directed eight short documentaries, with screenings at events such as EU Green Week, COP26 and COP28.

Her participative style and journalistic training (MSc in Communication Studies, VUB; London Film Academy) allow her to co-create powerful narratives with her subjects, while always prioritising lived experience, ethical collaboration and real-world resonance. With a filmmaker’s curiosity and a strategist’s insight, Anny explores how human stories behind policy, power and change can inspire us to be our best selves.

Geert Van Goetem

Fondateur de S.O.I.L.

Since its creation in 1987 as a multidisciplinary production center, S.O.I.L. (Sight Of an Ignored Landscape) has earned a unique place in the Flemish and Brussels artistic scene. From the very beginning, the focus has been on the symbiosis between different artistic disciplines (opera, visual arts, film, video, etc.), supporting new ideas and young or lesser-known artists, and pursuing both quality and humanity.

Never shying away from challenges, S.O.I.L. has provided a solid structure and financial support for projects which, despite their intrinsic potential, could not find a home elsewhere due to their nature or the artistic, financial, and practical risks they entailed. Many of its productions have won international awards.

Over time, S.O.I.L. has gradually specialized in the production of animated films and has become a major player in the Belgian animation sector. Its activities cover all animation techniques. S.O.I.L. works with a pool of animators on various projects in its Brussels studio.
